The upscale golf and yachting community of Puerto Aventuras is safe and somewhat tucked away from the hubbub of larger tourist destinations, yet it’s within easy reach of Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cancun. There are several all-inclusive resorts, spa hotels and vacation villas lining the coast here, with a sprinkling of boutique properties as well. Many of the beachfront resorts here have their own private marina, and some offer their guests luxury yacht charters for exploring the Riviera Maya.
The town itself is small and centered around the main marina. It began as a staff settlement to house hotel workers and fishermen, but it has now become a destination in its own right. There are a handful of restaurants, a small grocery store and a few souvenir shops in the center of town. The pier at the entrance to the marina is where buses and colectivos stop en route between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
If you’re a SCUBA diver, this is one of the best areas in the Riviera Maya to dive. The marina has a bevy of multi-lingual dive masters and instructors, as well as state-of-the-art equipment that ensures your safety and enjoyment. You can sign up for open water dives, cenote diving (cavern diving requires special certification) and more here. The pristine reef is only about 100 feet from shore, so you can easily do a few dives in the same day without spending much time on transportation.
There are two currency exchange locations in the town of Puerto Aventuras, as well as a few ATMs at the marina, restaurants and convenience stores. Both Mexican pesos and American dollars are accepted by the majority of businesses in town.
A number of boat rentals are available here, ranging from small catamaran boats for 2 to large luxury yachts that can comfortably accommodate up to 20 passengers. Most of the charters include open bar and snacks, along with a guide to take you out on the water to explore the world’s second largest barrier reef.
The azure waters and crystalline beaches of Puerto Aventuras are the perfect setting for a bachelor party, wedding, honeymoon or any other milestone celebration. The town’s cliff-top bars and restaurants are also popular places for celebrating the end of a hard day or a long vacation.
